We can’t say enough about this day trip in Tennessee.

We started our trip in Rock Island TN and wrapped it up in Smithville TN.

We only had three destinations planned on this day trip and each one was so enjoyable that we are planning to do this trip again … and we don’t often say that.

This day trip was a spur of the moment decision because we were wanting to hike and see some waterfalls. We selected Rock Island State Park, where the views are beautiful and it had been years since we were there.

After viewing the falls, we drove past the Rock Island Trolley Stop and decided to stop for ice cream.

We wrapped up our day with a fun stop at Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery. If you don’t get to do anything else, you must visit the Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery!

Great Falls, Twin Falls, and Picturesque Gorge

Our first stop was the Rock Island State Park Visitor Center, located at 82 Beach Road – Rock Island, TN. The people in the visitor center are very friendly and informative. Be sure to pick up a map of the park and they will provide you with clear directions. In addition to the falls and hiking trails, Rock Island State Park also has some beautiful cabins, just in case you want an extended stay or plan a little getaway.

You will want to wear hiking boots or a good pair of tennis shoes that you won’t mind if they get wet. The stone steps leading down into the gorge had running water cascading down the steps and off the rock wall, so watch your step. Once down, you have great views and some beautiful photo opportunities.

The mill was built in 1892 and operated until 1902. In 1982 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Across the street is the Spring House, which has a natural spring behind the wall and provided water for mill.

From there, you’ll drive a short distance to see the Twin Falls. We left the trail and climbed down for a closer view. This is where a good pair of hiking boots come in handy, because you will be climbing over a lots of large rocks to get down closer to the water.

Grab a Coffee or an Ice Cream Treat

As you drive towards the Twin Falls, you pass by the Rock Island Trolley Stop Ice Cream Shop located at 1189 Rock Island Road – Rock Island, TN. We decided to go to the falls first and then stop by for an ice cream treat afterwards. What caught our eye was a huge inflatable igloo in front of the trolleys. You can enjoy your ice cream while sitting inside an igloo. The Rock Island Trolley Stop has corn hole, live music at times, and is very seasonally orientated. The ice cream was delicious and the people are so friendly.

Wrap up your day by Cuddling a Goat!

Our final stop was Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery located at 285 Harmony Lane in Smithville, TN. It is a 30-minute drive from the park. We selected this destination for two reason: 1) they have the Harmony Lane Grille and we figured we would be hungry for lunch and 2) we were curious about “Goat Cuddling”.

We were so impressed with every aspect of Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery. After ordering our farm to table burger (which I have to say was the biggest burger I have ever seen and the tastiest), we were treated to a quick walk through to see the donkeys, emus, ponies, lamas, baby goats, and so much more.

Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery provides guided tours where you have an opportunity to cuddle a baby goat, milk a goat by hand, bottle feed baby goats, and tour the entire farm. What stood out the most to us, was the cleanliness of the facility. Be sure to check out their website for more information.

Harmony Lane Farms and Creamery sells Goat Milk Soap, which in addition to all the health benefits … smells great too. They sell farm fresh goat cheese along with farm fresh ground beef and sausage. You also need to try their ice cream made with goat’s milk. Everything was absolutely delicious.

We’d love to hear from you!
