Plan for a full day on this outdoor day trip adventure to Sparta, TN visiting Burgess Falls. This is a great trip to share with that special someone or with another couple who loves the outdoors.

Start your day trip off by kayaking to the bottom of Burgess Falls. We used Cumberland Kayak & Adventure Company, located at 387 Cane Hollow Road. If you haven’t kayaked before, you are going to love it. This portion of your day trip is perfect for both beginner and experienced paddlers.

Allocate 3-hours for this adventure and it takes place in rain or shine. A trained guide will instruct you on kayaking and then lead you on a 1-hour paddle to the base of Burgess Falls. Once there, you will spend 1-hour swimming, exploring, and taking advantage of great photo ops. Then it’s a 1-hour paddle back to your starting point.

Hungry for Lunch? (Option 1)

By now you have worked up an appetite. We recommend lunch at Chestnut Oak Farm Store & Kitchen, located at 7355 Co Hwy 1142. This is a quick 10-minute drive and the food is delicious.

Now that you have eaten and are rested, hop back in your car for a 1-minute drive to Burgess Falls State Park, located at 4000 Burgess Falls Dr. Plan to spend about 2-hours hiking and playing in the water at the top of Burgess Falls. (Note: as of our visit, you cannot hike from the top down to the base of Burgess Falls.)

Hungry for Lunch (Option 2)

After kayaking, you are sure to have worked up a healthy appetite and you really don’t feel like hiking the upper falls. I strongly recommend heading into Sparta to enjoy lunch at Yanni’s Grill, located at 19 S. Spring Street. It’s about a 20 minute drive to some of the best food you will enjoy. The portions are great, the servers are friendly, and the food is delicious!

Wrap Up Your Day with Wine

It is about a 14-minute drive back to I-40. If you still have time remaining in your day trip schedule, why not drive another 7-minutes further into Baxter, TN? Visit DelMonaco Winery & Vineyards, located at 600 Lance Drive. Here you can enjoy a wine tasting or purchase a glass of wine and sit outdoors as you talk about your amazing day trip to Burgess Falls.
